What is UN3480?
UN 3480 is a certification for lithium-ion batteries. It is a United Nations (UN) shipping classification for lithium-ion batteries and is used to ensure that these batteries are safely transported. The certification is necessary because lithium-ion batteries are considered a dangerous good due to their potential to ignite or explode if not handled properly.
To obtain UN 3480 certification, the manufacturer must perform a series of tests on the batteries to ensure they meet the UN’s safety standards.
Once the lithium-ion batteries have passed required tests, they are assigned a UN number (UN 3480) and can be safely transported by air, sea, or land. It is important to note that lithium-ion batteries that have not been properly certified can be dangerous and should not be transported.
